Dry skin is caused due to lack of moisture in the skin, especially during winters. So using natural products that re-hydrate your skin, it is possible to get rid of dry skin using home remedies. Apart from dry skin, these home remedies also help to get rid of rough and cracked skin from the face and other body parts.

There are many lotions and moisturizers on the market to combat dry skin. But most of them come with a big price tag. Natural home remedies are not only cheap but also quite effective in nourishing and hydrating dry skin back to a healthy state.

Coconut Oil for Dry Skin

Simple to procure and use, coconut oil does wonder to replenish and lock in the natural moisture of the skin. It contains healthy fatty acids that replenish the skin’s lessened fatty acid reserve.
How to use
Apply coconut oil on dry areas of your skin and leave it on. It will get absorbed by the skin.
Apply coconut oil once or twice a day, as needed.

Olive Oil for Dry Skin

Olive oil has moisturizing properties, which nourish your skin. The presence of polyphenols in this oil also helps counteract the damage caused by the Sun.

2 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil
1-2 drops lavender essential oil

How to use

1. Mix the lavender oil with the olive oil.
2. Massage the concoction into your skin, and wipe off the excess oil with a washcloth.

Alternatively, you may use a small amount of it as a leave-in moisturizer. Other oils that can be used instead of lavender oil are grapeseed oil, cypress oil, and black seed oil.

Use this every night, before going to bed.

Almond Oil for Dry Skin

Almond oil has been used for centuries to treat dry skin. It is moisturizing and thus makes your skin smooth and supple. An added advantage of using this oil is its ability to improve your complexion and skin tone.

4 tablespoons sweet almond oil
2-3 drops geranium essential oil

How to use
1. Transfer the almond oil into a sterilized glass bottle.
2. Add the geranium essential oil and shake the bottle to combine.
3. Use this mixture in place of your moisturizer.

To reap the maximum benefits of this remedy, use it every night.

Vitamin-E Oil

Vitamin E oil is used to target excessive dryness because it can improve the skin’s hydration significantly. It is rich in antioxidants that also helps clear the skin. This oil battles skin aging, scaly skin, and other related dry skin.

Take 1-2 vitamin E capsules

How to use
1. Pierce the capsules and empty the oil into a bowl.
2. Apply this to the affected areas and massage for a few minutes.
3. Leave the oil overnight.
4. Rinse your face as usual in the morning.

Apply this oil overnight all over your face or on specific problem areas.

Vaseline for Dry Skin

Vaseline is basically composed of petroleum jelly or petrolatum. This ingredient is used to lock in the moisture and prevent water loss from the skin. It can be a little greasy, hence it is best used as an overnight treatment.

How to use
1. Take a small amount of the jelly, massage the entire face.
2. It is best if you leave this on overnight. In case you find it a little too tacky, leave it on for an hour or so before wiping the excess off with a tissue or washcloth.

Do this once every day.

Aloe Vera for Dry Skin

Aloe Vera gel is often used in the treatment of dry and patchy skin. It is also included in many commercially available lotions and creams, but using fresh aloe gel is the best way to use it.

How to use
Cut the aloe leaf diagonally and extract the gel present inside it.
Apply some of this fresh gel on the face and massage it in, so it is absorbed into the skin.
Leave the gel overnight.

Store the remaining gel in an air-tight container in a cool place.
Repeat this every night before going to bed.

Multani Mitti for Dry Skin

A clay mask with multani mitti is often recommended for oily skin types because of its ability to absorb the excess oil. This property apart, the clay also soothes the skin and has a cooling effect on the dry and irritated skin.

2 tablespoons multani mitti (Fuller’s earth)
1 tablespoon cucumber juice
1 teaspoon honey OR 1 tablespoon milk

How to use
1. Mix everything together to get a thick paste. Adjust the consistency with some water as required.
2. Apply this as a face pack and let it dry for 15 minutes.
3. Rinse it off with plain water.

Use this face pack once a week.

Rose Water for Dry Skin

It is soothing, moisturizing, and refreshing for your skin. It helps in improving blood circulation to the skin’s surface and its astringent properties balance the skin’s pH.

1. Sprit some rose water on the cotton pad and use this to gently wipe your face after cleansing it.

1 teaspoon raw honey

Lemon for Dry Skin

1 tablespoon honey OR almond oil

4. Wash off the face pack with plain water.

Few drops of olive oil OR coconut oil

4. Wash it off with cool water.

Yogurt for Dry Skin

3 tablespoons granulated sugar
¼ cup plain yogurt (or curd)
2 teaspoons honey

How to use
1. Add the yogurt to the honey, and stir till they are combined.
2. Add the granulated sugar to this and mix gently.
3. Apply this scrub all over your face, and massage in gentle circular motions for a few minutes.
4. Keep the scrub on for five minutes, and then rinse it with cold water.

This scrub should be used once a week.

Neem face pack for Dry Skin

Neem leaves have the ability to moisturize the skin and also reduce the itching sensation and irritation. They improve overall skin health and also rejuvenate the skin cells.

2 teaspoons dried neem leaves
1 teaspoon honey OR milk cream
A pinch of turmeric powder
Water

How to use
1. Combine the leaf powder with honey and turmeric powder first.

4. Rinse it off with water.

Rice Flour Mask for Dry Skin

1 tablespoon rice flour
1 teaspoon cucumber juice
1/2 teaspoon honey (optional)

How to use
1. Mix all the ingredients together. Adjust the consistency if required with some water.
2. Apply on the face. Let it dry for 10-15 minutes.
3. Wash the face mask off with water.

Repeat the application of this face mask 1-2 times a week.

Sandalwood face pack for Dry Skin

Sandalwood is popularly known as ‘chandan’ in the Indian subcontinent. It has been used in different forms (powder, paste or oil) to tackle various skin issues for many centuries. The oil version of this herb contains fatty acids that nourish the skin and have anti-aging effects too.

1-2 teaspoons milk powder
4-5 drops sandalwood oil
Rosewater

How to use
1. Firstly, add the sandalwood oil to the milk powder and then a little bit of rose water to get a face pack like consistency.
2. Apply this on the face and let the face pack dry naturally for 15 minutes.
3. Rinse it off with plain water.

Do this once a week.
