8 Surprising Home Remedies for Premature Gray Hair

Gray hairs are very common nowadays for the people under the age groups of 35. The natural colour of hair is due to the cells in the hair follicles known as melanocytes which generate a pigment which gives colour to the hair. When melanocytes stop producing these pigments, due to increasing age, your hair starts to lose its natural colour which leads to graying of hair. Though one cannot prevent the natural cycle of whitening of hair, you can always prevent your hair from premature graying.
Home remedies are very helpful in curing premature graying of hair effectively.

These are some home remedies for treating premature graying of hair naturally.

Onion with Lemon Juice

Onion juice is rich in the enzyme catalase and has been used for centuries as a topical treatment and remedy for grey hair. In fact, herbalists have been advising their patients to rub onions on their scalps to cure grey hair long before any hair dyes were ever invented!
So rubbing onions and onion juice mixed with lemon juice on your scalp every day is a powerful reversal treatment for grey hair (the only downside is, of course, the smell). Wheatgrass and barley grass are also rich in catalase, so mix up a paste and rub this onto your scalp every day as well.

Indian Gooseberry (Amla)

Drink the gooseberry juice every day, along with mixing up a combination of dried gooseberries and coconut or almond oil, which you then rub and massage into your scalp every night. The best type of gooseberry if you can find it is the Indian gooseberry known as “amla”.

Curry Leaves

This hair tonic is known to help promote darker pigmentation (turn grey hair to black) due to its high level of B group vitamins and is best combined with coconut oil for a more potent mix. Throw a handful of curry leaves into an average size pot of boiling water. Add 1 to 2 tbsp of coconut oil and boil for 6 to 8 minutes, or until the leaves turn black. Remove and leave to cool for 20 minutes before straining the oil into a container. Massage your scalp and hair with the oil 4 - 5 times a week, preferably before bedtime. Leave on overnight and wash off in the morning.

Henna

Mix up some castor oil and lemon juice until it goes frothy then add some henna. Apply the mixture to your hair and scalp and leave it on for at least an hour before washing and shampooing your hair. Repeat every day.

Black Seed Oil and Olive Oil

Black seed oil and olive oil have both been used for thousands of years to treat and cure gray hair. The other big benefit of using black seed and olive oil is they make your hair look shiny and healthy and also promote the growth of new hair follicles. Simply mix up an equal amount of olive oil and black seed oil and massage into the scalp. Wash out with warm water after an hour. Repeat daily. You can also take black seed oil internally for extra benefit. 1 tbsp twice a day will do the trick.

Wheatgrass juice

The wheatgrass juice is a fantastic and natural remedy to keep the hair from graying. It is packed full of vitamins A, B-complex, C, E,  chlorophyll, amino acids, iron, selenium, copper, calcium, iodine and antioxidant enzyme catalase.

The extraordinary antioxidants in wheatgrass help to get rid of hydrogen peroxide—which causes grey hair and other signs of aging such as wrinkles, age spots, arthritis, and dementia. Wheatgrass juice is also useful for skin problems such as eczema and psoriasis.

 Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha is an anti-aging herb – it can reverse your greys and keep your skin soft and young looking. This Indian herb has amazing hormone balancing effects, and it also helps to calm the mind and boost your immune system.

How to use: Take ashwagandha supplement with food to boost your hair and health or take ashwagandha in powder form, about the ½ teaspoon with milk or ghee.

Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 is present in natural form only in animal sources of food– meat, fish, eggs, milk and other dairy products. So if you are a vegan or a vegetarian you are likely to be deficient. Also, certain medicines or medical condition can affect the absorption of vitamin B12.

Hair greying due to B12 deficiency is easily reversed by including B12 rich foods into your diet. But if you are a vegetarian you can boost B12 in the body by taking a B12 supplement.
