10 Ways to Get Rid of Bad Breath Naturally at Home

Bad breath is embarrassing and can take a toll on your confidence level. Bad breath can be due to a number of reasons such as eating odorous foods, smoking, dry mouth, medical conditions, gum disease, and sinus conditions.

Most of the people drink too little water throughout the day to ward off the bacteria in the mouth that are most responsible for causing bad breath. Tiny microbes in the mouth actually feed on loose food particles throughout the day, releasing odour-causing byproducts that end up stinking up breath. And all-natural saliva, it turns out, is your body's built-in remedy for eliminating these bacteria. So drink plenty of water every day.

2. Lemon Juice

Lemon Juice has been used for curing bad breath for generations. The acidic content in lemons prevents the growth of bacteria in your mouth. Plus, its strong pleasant smell helps mask the bad odour.

Stir 1 tbsp of lemon juice into a cup of water and rinse your mouth with it. You can also add a bit of salt to it and then use it. This remedy will help to solve the problem of dry mouth which is one of the main reasons that contribute to bad breath.

3. Green Tea

Having green tea early in the morning can take you a long way in your war against halitosis. The phytochemicals in green tea are naturally antibacterial and will wash away and eliminate the odour-causing bacteria.

4. Fennel Seeds

An intrinsic part of Indian culinary culture, fennel is effective in resolving halitosis issues very effectively. It freshens your breath and also takes care of any infections that may be causing bad breath.

Take 1 tbsp fennel seeds and chew them properly after your meal at any time in the day.

5. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has antibacterial properties that help greatly in reducing halitosis. It restores the pH balance in the mouth.

Mix the 1-2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar into the water. Use this as a mouthwash. Gargle for 3-5 minutes. Rinse your mouth with plain water.

6. Baking Soda with Lemon Juice

Baking soda balances the pH levels in the mouth and brings down the acidity as it is a natural antacid. Along with the antibacterial properties of lemon juice, this remedy makes for a potent combination to remove bad breath.

Mix the 1 tbsp baking soda and the same amount of lemon juice to get a coarse paste. Gently rub this paste on your teeth. Leave it on for a minute and then rinse your mouth with clean water.

7. Cloves

Cloves help freshen your breath and also have antibacterial properties that are very helpful in getting rid of bad breath.

The easiest method is to pop a few pieces of cloves into your mouth and chew them thoroughly. This will eliminate bad breath in a few minutes.

8. Sesame Oil

Sesame oil thoroughly cleanses your mouth and improves dental health. An added benefit of using this remedy is that sesame oil also whitens your teeth.

Swish the oil around in your mouth for a few minutes. Spit it out and gargle with lukewarm water. Do this every day in the morning.

9 Fennel

Fennel acts as an excellent mouth freshener that helps control bad breath. It also contains antimicrobial properties that fight the bacteria in the mouth.

Slowly chew 1 tbsp of fennel to freshen your breath and stimulate the production of saliva.You can also drink fennel tea a couple of times a day.

10. Cardamom

Cardamom has been used since forever in India after meals. It acts as an aromatic freshener for your mouth and reduces bad breath by acting as a deodorizer. It masks the bad odour with its fragrance.
Chew on the pod as a whole or peel the pod and chew on the seeds present inside. You can ingest the chewed on pod after your meal.
