8 Effective Home Remedies to get rid of Oily Skin

Oily skin is a common problem for many. Oily skin is the result of excessive secretion of skin oil or sebum. Although the oily skin is mostly associated with teenage years or puberty, some people possess clear and flawless complexion for their entire lives. Oily skin deserves proper care if you want to look beautiful.

While the secretion of sebum by your skin is natural, overactive sebaceous glands can clog your pores and cause acne. Myriad factors contribute to excessive sebum secretion like puberty, genetic factors, stress, ultraviolet radiation effect, hormonal changes, overexposure to heat, seasonal changes, pregnancy, birth control and hormonal pills and more.

When oily skin acts up, reduce the use of makeup, especially foundation. Choose water-based products instead of oil-based. Look for products labelled noncomedogenic that are less likely to clog pores.

1. Lemon Juice

Take 2 tablespoons of water and 1 tablespoon of lime juice, mix it well. Now, apply this on your face and let it dry for 5-10 minutes before using warm water to wash it off.

2. Tomatoes

Tomatoes contain salicylic acid, a common acne home remedy. The acids in tomatoes may help absorb excess skin oils and help unclog pores. To make an exfoliating tomato mask:
Combine 1 teaspoon sugar with the pulp of 1 tomato. Apply to the skin in a circular motion. Leave the mask on for 5 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with tepid water and pat dry.

3. Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil is a folk remedy to treat oily skin, acne, and other skin problems. It’s thought that jojoba mimics sebum on the skin to “trick” sebaceous glands into producing less sebum and help keep oil levels balanced.

A little jojoba oil goes a long way. Using too much may worsen oily skin. Try massaging a few drops into the clean skin a few days a week to see how you react. If you like the results, apply daily.

4. Yogurt

Take 1 tablespoon of honey and the same quantity of yogurt add some oatmeal (ground) mix it well. Give your face a good application with this mixture for 5-10 minutes before using warm water to rinse it off.

5. Cucumber

Rub slices of cucumber on your face before hitting the sack. Let it sit overnight before using warm water to wash it off.

6. Apple Cider Vinegar

In a cup of water, blend 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and drink it every day before you hit the sack.

7. Clay Mask

Make a mask by thoroughly mixing 2 tablespoons of witch hazel, 1 tablespoon of facial clay and a couple of drops each of lemon and cypress oil for aroma. Let it sit for 10 minutes and after it dries wash it off with cold water.

8. Visit Dermatologist

Sometimes home remedies do not work for everyone, and you might need something stronger. Talk to your dermatologist and explain your symptoms and what you've already tried. She can then recommend a variety of other treatments for you.
